Before and After

Beyond the perils of a basic remodel, this project was a special challenge in that it was done on a small island amid the Salish Sea. So small is this island that it is only accessible by ferry and has no need for stop lights. Meandering country roads and a handful of traffic signs are enough to serve the population of this special place. Needless to say, acquiring materials and adapting to the “island pace” when dealing with local contractors was an exercise in patience.

The home was built in 1980 and needed work but the location of the property made it hard to pass up. The peaceful seclusion and water views were outstanding but still only being only a five minute drive to town offered up everything we could have wanted. So close yet away from it all!

So we started planning the remodel. The biggest problems we wanted to address were the oversized wood burner in the living room, the abundance of dated terra cotta tiling in the entry kitchen and dining areas, loud paint colors, worn carpet and completely outdated bathrooms. Pretty run of the mill updates if you’re close to services and amenities.
